CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City State University’s basketball and baseball teams have each added a new recruit from Willmar, M.N., and the two are brothers.

Jake and Austin Rambow both recently signed Letters of Intent to attend VCSU beginning in 2013-14.

Austin Rambow, a 6-foot-5 forward, has signed a Letter of Intent to attend VCSU and play basketball. As a junior at Willmar High School, Austin averaged 13.8 points and seven rebounds per game. He was named a Central Lakes Conference All-Conference selection.

“Austin’s versatility is his strength,” said Steve Grove, his head coach at Willmar. “He is able to shoot the three and also is a good enough ball handler to get to the rim or pull up for the mid-range shot. Austin also has the ability to play with his back to the basket.”

Austin’s older brother Jake has also signed a Letter of Intent to attend VCSU and play baseball beginning in 2013-14. Jake is a sophomore shortstop and second baseman at Ridgewater College in Willmar. As a freshman, he led the team in games played and was second in runs scored. Defensively, he led the team in assists and was third in put outs.

“We are excited to add Jake to the Viking program; he is exactly the type of player and person that we are looking for at VCSU,” said VCSU head baseball coach Casey Olney.  “Jake will be a valuable asset as he has the ability to play all three infield positions and a tremendous approach at the plate.”

Jake and Austin are the sons of Jon and Sharon Rambow.
