CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Earlier this year the USDA implemented the first major changes in school meals through the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act. A few people have questioned the lack of protein in the new diet that focuses on whole grains, fruits and vegetables.

Because of that Valley City Public Schools Registered Dietitian Sue Milender said the USDA made an adjustment this month.

She talked about what the adjustments do.

Milender encouraged anyone with questions over the school meals program in Valley City to contact her.

USDA officials visited Valley City earlier this year and praised the school district for serving meals that meet or exceed USDA standards.

Milender said the school district serves 900 meals a day making it the largest restaurant in the area.
