(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School basketball teams hosted Leola/Frederick South Dakota on Tuesday night and came up with a split; the girls winning, and the boys falling short to the Titans.

Girls: Oakes 67 Leola/Frederick 39

The girls of Oakes never trailed in the contest, and were able to get their overall record back to the .500 mark with the large victory. Nicole Warren of Oakes finished with a team high 17 points, and became the all-time career scoring leader of Tornado girls basketball after scoring three points; to pass the mark of 1220 points. Quinn Vculek and Sydney Breitbach each scored in double figures as well for Oakes with 16 and 13 points respectively. 

Boys: Leola/Frederick 45 Oakes 33

The Titans took an early 8-0 lead, and carried the momentum through the midway point of the third quarter. Oakes was able to tie the game late in the third at 25, but were unable to take the lead, and the Titans were able to pull away in the final eight minutes. Oakes was lead by Ethan Zetocha’s nine points, while Bryce Meehl had eight.

The girls are now 4-4, while the boys are 3-11. Next up for both teams are dates with fellow District 1 opponent Fairmount-Campbell-Tintah. The boys head to Fairmount on Thursday, and the girls host F-C-T on Friday; with coverage starting both nights around 7:15 on KDDR 1220 AM/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com
