(NewsDakota.com)- Mayville State came in looking for some respect and they left with a pair of big wins. From the onset they punched the Jimmies in the mouth in both ends of the doubleheader. In the men’s game it appeared Taylor Newton’s buzzer-beating three to force overtime gave JC a reprieve, but it was all Comets in overtime, 72-66.

The women dropped a 92-79 decision after thoroughly handling Mayville just four days prior.  The final score was not indicative of the Comets domination, they grabbed a 26-point lead with just over eight minutes remaining. The Jimmies cut it down to nine, but it was too little, too late.

Hannah Steele lead the way with 19, most of her damage coming from the free throw line. She was 13-of-14 from the stripe as the teams combined to shoot 78 foul shots. After hitting 11 threes on Sunday in the win, the Jimmies had just four last night.

Its the fourth loss of the season for Jamestown College as they fall to 18-4. Subrina Rude had 23 points for the Comets.

Justin Wieck was not happy with his teams effort after the game saying he felt like his team failed to respect the 5-15 Comets. Mayville State lead in this one most of the way, the Jimmies largest lead of two came on the opening possession of overtime. Comets scored 10 of the next 12 to take a commanding overtime lead.

Jamestown couldn’t stop the duo of Steve Ivory and Austin Emerson as they scored a combined 42 points. Emerson hit five long balls and Ivory took it to the basket at will. “We told our guys he like to penetrate with his right hand,” Coach Wieck said after the game, “but we let him have that all night.”

The Jimmies fall to 10-13. Jamestown College will host Oglala Lakota College on Sunday in a doubleheader.
