(NewsDakota.com) The quest for five wins in a row by the Oakes High School girls basketball team came to an abrupt end on Tuesday night, as the Tornadoes fell to the Enderlin Eagles 58-54.

Oakes started the game hot; with a 9-0 lead in the first quarter. However, the Eagles quickly answered and went on their own 9-0 run and had a 14-13 lead after the first quarter. Enderlin expanded their lead by outscoring Oakes 9-4 in the second eight minutes to take a 23-17 lead going into the locker room.

In the third, the Tornadoes found their rhythm again; just as they have in most of the third quarters this season; outscoring Enderlin 22-10 to take a 39-33 lead into the final quarter. The Eagles clawed their way back, taking the lead for good in the final 90 seconds to secure the victory.

Enderlin (10-5 3-2 District 2) had 23 points from Megan Johnson, who scored just six points at half. Kelsey Laufenberg had 14. Oakes (8-6 3-1 District 1) was lead by Nicole Warren with 18 points, Sydney Breitbach and Lydia Hansen each had eight in the defeat.

Oakes now re-enters District 1 play on Thursday night, when they head on the road to play at Wyndmere against the Warbirds of Wyndmere-Lidgerwood. Coverage on KDDR 1220 AM/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starts around 7:15, with tip at 7:30 p.m.
