CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Valley City State University women’s basketball coach Jill DeVries announces the signing of Courtney Greiner, a 6′ post player from Hancock, MN to an NAIA letter-of-intent. 

Greiner averaged 17.4 points, 9.1 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.0 steals and 2.4 blocks per game for the Owls in her senior campaign. She is a 2-time All Pheasant Conference first team selection and was named the 2013 Pheasant Conference MVP. Greiner was also 2-time All Pheasant Conference honorable-mention selection while at Hancock High School. 

“We are really excited about Courtney’s decision to be a Viking. She has a very high basketball IQ and her versatility will allow her to play with her back to the basket, as well as facing the hoop in the college game,” said DeVries. “We are excited about her size and skill level inside as well as on the perimeter.”

The 2013 Hancock high school team MVP scored 1,107 career points while grabbing 736 career rebounds from the power forward position. She also dished out 246 assists, nabbed 239 steals and blocked 112 shots in her four seasons as a varsity player. She was a key member of the 2011 Owls team that played in the Minnesota State Tournament losing in double over-time to eventual champion Maranatha in the semifinals.

“We feel that Courtney’s best basketball is ahead of her. She has developed perimeter skills that will only help her in the college game, and is very effective using her body in the post position,” DeVries said. “She comes from a winning program and understands the work needed to be successful. We are looking forward to Courtney being a Viking.”
