CITY (NewsDakota.com) – Brandon Larson, a Valley City High school graduate and state wrestling champion for the Hi-Liners, recently took second place during the 2013 FILA USA Wrestling Junior National Championships in Las Vegas on April 19-20.

Valley City High School wrestling coach Aaron Larson (also Brandon’s father) says that Brandon has now been invited to train at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., and prepare for the USA Junior World Team Trials in Stillwater, Okla., on June 23. The winner of the trials will compete at the 2013 FILA World Wrestling Tournament to be held in Sofia, Bulgaria, August 13-18.

The National Championships in Las Vegas were for wrestlers ages 17-20 and open to all wrestlers from across the United States. Larson competed at 211 pounds in Greco Roman wrestling. He had wins by pin over wrestlers from Maryland, Washington, and Montana on his way to the finals, where he lost a close decision to a wrestler from Michigan.

Larson won a state title for the Hi-Liners in 2012, capping off a 46-1 senior season. Coach Aaron Larson says Brandon is currently a redshirt freshman at North Dakota State University.
