(NewsDakota.com) The students who attend the Oakes Public School system started the 2013-14 academic year on Wednesday. It was also the first day for the recently appointed new Superintendent to start the wheels turning on the goals he has set for the District for the year.

Joshua Johnson says he and members of the district have set three distinct goals for the year.

On security, Johnson noted the district has received a $25,000 grant from the state of North Dakota for improvements. He added that the plan to keep kids safe is as all-encompassing as possible.

Some changes to the district for this year, other than the amount of new teachers, includes a recently renovated playground and more of a social media presence.
