CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) It’s a big weekend for Valley City High School sports.

The Weekend kicks off with the Hi-Liners football team making the trip to Wahpeton for an EDC match up. While the eyes of Hi-Liners fans will be on the football team Friday night, the focus will switch to two other sports on Saturday.

Starting at 11am on Satruday, September 21st the Hi-Liners will host the largest high school cross country invite that North Dakota has ever seen. This year’s Bill Jansen Blue and White Invite will have nearly 50 teams and over 1200 high school athletes running the course at Bjornson Park.  One of the reasons that the meet has grown to such large numbers, is because this the course will be the site of the state meet. That has many teams coming to the area to preview what the track has to offer.

If that weren’t enough going on at the same time the Volleyball team will be hosting the annual Optimist tournament in a number of different Venues. The tournament will features, premier teams from both classes and will run though out the day on Saturday. The host team will start the day off at the Hi-Liner Athletic Center in the morning around 10am.

Hi-Liners’ Athletic Director, Marty Bratrud, was able to take a little time out of his busy schedule to let us know everything about the weekends activities at Valley City High School this weekend.

When the weekend comes to an end, it’s not over, Monday night will be a big night for the Hi-Liners tennis team. The squad will host Wahpeton in the EDC Regional play in game. The Team that wins the match will play in the Regional Tournament in Fargo on September, 26th, the losing team is out.

Monday night will also be a big night for the Hi-Linners girls golf team as they head to King’s Walk Golf Course in Grand Forks for the EDC Regional tournament. Competing for the Hi-Liners in the event will be Sara Gilbertson, Saidee Oberlander, Kassidy Ronnigen, Rachel Schueneman, Mikayla Gustafson, Maia Wendel, Abby Ingstad, Abby Lemnus and Maggie Oberlander.
