(NewsDakota.com) The City of Oakes is facing a couple of hiccups dealing with garbage service.

For roughly two weeks, city crews have been picking up trash bags around town by hand, as the lone garbage truck has been shut down due to needed repairs. Crews have only been picking up garbage placed in bags. The City has also postponed recycling more than once within the past week.

The City’s Facebook page cites mechanics with Fargo and Sioux Falls-based Sanitation Products Inc. discovered additional repairs that are needed for the garbage truck, and the mechanics are “changing their story daily”. More parts are in the process of being sent to repair the truck. Waste Management has been contacted to see if the company can come through town to collect garbage. A call to Sanitation Products seeking comment was not immediately returned Wednesday.

In addition, no replacement for the City’s landfill has been designated and approved. The current landfill is near capacity.

The City Council will meet for their regular monthly meeting on Monday November 4 to discuss the fate of the garbage truck and other issues.
