CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Dean Koppelman says the district will struggle if it continues to lose students even with the higher per pupil funding formula by the state.

Valley City Schools Superintendent Dean Koppelman.

The district lost some 25 students last year and so far this year the district is down 20 students from August through December.

The state per pupil fund formula increased from $4,000 dollars per student to 88-hundred dollars this year, the figure moves to $9,000 dollars per student during the next school year.

The state legislature adjusted the per pupil payment after they made a reduction in the property tax formula during the last session.

Meanwhile Koppelman says the Valley City School District’s interim fund which started at 6.5 percent is now at 20 percent but he explains why that will change.
