CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The most senior member of the Valley City School board announced that he would not seek another term during a regular school board meeting on January 20.

The term for Dick Nelson’s rural position ends this June. So a new school board member will be elected following the June primary election later this year.

Nelson says, “It’s time to step aside to give someone else a chance to serve on the board.” Nelson served as the lead negotiator for the board during his 24 years of service.

The Valley City school board voted unanimously to have Joyce Braunagel become one of the school district’s negotiator’s following the announcement that Nelson would step down. Braunagel serves at the school board chairwoman.
