(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes City Council held their regular monthly meeting for the month of February on Monday night.

The city’s water tower project has begun in earnest. The Council determined the first phase of the project will be to replace the old tower, which currently stands next to City Hall, and the second phase will be rehabilitating the water tower at the industrial park.  The Council will review proposed sites and determine a location for a new tower at next month’s meeting. 

The Council voted to purchase a new garbage truck and replace a rear load packer within the next six months for no more than $310,000.

The Council also voted to increase water, sewer and garbage rate increases effective March 1.

Water: Residential will be $40, which includes 2,000 gallons. Multi-Dwelling will be $20 per unit including 1,000 gallons. The commercial rate will be $50 including 2,000 gallons.

Sewer: Residential $23, Multi-Dwelling $12 per unit, Commercial $33

Garbage: Residential $10, Multi-Dwelling $10, Small Business $16, Commercial $46

Rural Garbage: Residential $25, Small Business $35, Commercial $65

There will also be an added surcharge of garbage equipment of 50 cents for City accounts, and $1 for rural accounts. 

The Council also approved a request of $2,500 to be used for production equipment for Tornado TV.
