CITY N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Nearly 29-hundred dollars was raised to help the Schonert family during the “Penny War” last week at Washington Elementary school.
In one week Washington students raised $2853.47 for the family who lost their home in a January 28 fire in Valley City.

Washington Principal Chad Lueck thanked the students and families for cleaning out some of their loose change to help the Valley City family.

Meanwhile, Jefferson Elementary students raised nearly 12-hundred dollars for the Schonert family during a one day event called “Hat Day.”

Principal Troy Miller says normally about $40 to $60 dollars is raised on “Hat Day” for the PTO. Students decided the money should go to the Schonert family. Miller says students and their families raised 1,188.77 during the January 31 “Hat Day” event.
