(NewsDakota.com) The Fargo Oak Grove Lutheran boys basketball team is making their first return to the Class B State tournament since 2011 after defeating the Oakes Tornadoes 75-51 in the Region 1 Championship on Thursday night.

The Tornadoes (12-13) were the first to come out swinging with a 7-0 start. Unfortunatly, that was the only time they were able to have a significant lead, as Oak Grove (23-2) came back with a 6-0 run: eventually taking the lead midway through the first quarter and never looked back. Junior Carter Kretchman made seven three pointers: seventeen for the entire tournament, and lead his team with 26 points.

Oakes had a team high 14 points from Ethan Zetocha who were able to win the most games in 12 years this season, have the best district record in that same time, and finish as one of the final 16 teams in the state.

In the third place game, there was very little defense as Milnor defeated Enderlin 95-77.

Milnor’s Britton Bussman was named senior athlete of the year, Kindred head coach Brad Woel was named Region 1 Coach of the Year, and North Sargent’s Michael Sorlie was named Region 1 Athletic Director of the Year.
