Valley City Vipers Squirt hockey team traveled to Minot this past weekend to take part in a sixteen team tournament. The Minot Tournament of Champions featured teams from the United States and Canada.

The Vipers opened the tournament on Friday with a win over the Hazen Beulah team by the score of 10 to 1. Max Mehus and Jace Thompson lead the Vipers each recording a Hat Trick three Goals,  also adding goals Braxton Jorissen with two goals, Joe Cummings and Alex Senf with a goal each. In addition to his Goal Alex Senf tallied four assists in game one with Max Mehus adding two assists and Joe Cummings and Eric Ingstad each adding an assist. Carson Zubrod was solid in net recording 13 saves. 

Game two(Saturday), featured the Vipers taking on a solid Rugby Ice Hawks team that had just beaten a Regina, Saskatchewan  team. Lead by Jace Thompson’s incredible five goals and one assist, the Vipers racked up their second victory by the score of 10 to 1. Alex Senf added two goals and three assists, Joe Cummings added a goal, Jacob Pfeifer scored a goal, Braxton Jorissen scored a goal and two assist with Max Mehus also earning an assist. Carson Zubrod was again a rock in net denying 21 shots!

Game 3(Saturday) paired the charging Vipers against the Swift Current, Saskatchewan team that had been dispatching their opponents with authority. The Vipers would again prove up to the task! Jace Thompson was not to be denied a victory and exploded for an astonishing eight goals! Carson Zubrod again in net elevated his game to a level of excellence shielding his net from 41 shots… and securing a 10 to 6 victory for his Valley City Vipers! Joe Cummings added a goal and an assist. Alex Senf scored a goal and earned three assists. Braxton Jorissen and Max Mehus each added two assist with Kael Jenison and Thomas Pfeifer each earning an assist. This victory put the Vipers in the Championship on Sunday.

Sunday, Championship day brought the Valley City Vipers and the York Town Terriers to MAYSA Arena. Shortly into the game the Vipers Jace Thompson scored twice sending the York Town team reeling but, not for long, within a few short minutes the team from Saskatchewan evened the score at two a piece and ended the 1st period in a two two tie. York Town scored seconds into the second period giving them a 4 to 2 lead. But the Vipers were not rattled nor did they doubt their ability to win. The Vipers struck back again and again with the York Town team digging in with their own determination. And in the end lead by Jace Thompson bringing the magic to the magic city with another FIVE goal game and Alex Senf’s three goal Hat Trick with and additional three assists the Valley City team was crowned champion with a 8 to 6 win over York Town. Carson Zubrod brought his best game on championship day, wowing the crowd, his team and frustrating his opponent with 50 saves! Max Mehus added two more assists to his total with Kody McGough and Eric Ingstad each with an assist. The Vipers are Coached by Marshal Senf and Ryan Leroux.
