(NewsDakota.com) For a team that’s new to the Class B Baseball ranks, the boys from Oakes High School have started pretty well.

After winning their inaugural game Thursday at home 8-1 against LaMoure-Litchville/Marion, the Tornadoes played their first set of games on the road in the program’s history, and ended up sweeping Medina-Pingree/Buchanon on Friday afternoon.

In the seven inning contest, Oakes sailed to an 9-0 victory. Jon Tyre, Kollen Knutson and Ethan Zetocha combined to pitch a shutout of the Thunder, allowing just four hits while striking out 14 batters. Tyre had eight strikeouts, while Knutson and Zetocha each picked up three.

Offensively for Oakes, Bryce Meehl scored three runs and had a ground-rule double, Cole Kelly had a double, single and three runs batted in, while Michael Kelly registered two hits and scored a run.

In the second, Oakes dominated MPB with a 13-2 win in three innings.

The Tornadoes have started the 2014 season with a 3-0 mark, and will next head to Valley City to take on the Hi-Liners on Tuesday, April 15. Coverage can be head on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM, KOVC-AM 1490 and NewsDakota.com
