N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Farmers Union has announced that they are pleased with the recent action by the U.S. Surface Transportation Board (STB).

NDFU President Mark Watne praised the action that will ensure delivery of much-needed fertilizer to farmers in North Dakota. The STB decision will require railroads to report by April 18th their plans to deliver shipments for spring planting and provide weekly status reports over the next six weeks regarding delivery.

“We appreciate the STB’s response to our concerns and the fact that railroads will be reporting their actual performance in delivering fertilizer, rather than just their planned trips to deliver fertilizer. There’s a huge difference,” Watne said. “It is critical that fertilizer gets delivered this spring. Without it, we can’t get seed in the ground.”
