CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The 20th annual Valley City State University Scholarship Auction will be held Friday, April 25, at the Valley City Eagles Club, is taking on a Mardi Gras theme this year.

When you enter the Valley City Eagles, it will feel as if you are in New Orleans for Mardi Gras, including the jazz music, balconies and beads! All attendees are encouraged to come dressed in the Mardi Gras theme. Prizes for he most creatively dressed individual, couple and group.

The social hour and the silent auction begin at 5:00 pm. Folks are encouraged to come and check out a variety of gift baskets available to be bid on along with chances to win. Tickets to the auction are $35 each, which includes admission, two beverage tickets and a full buffet dinner.

The meal includes Cajun-rubbed roast beef and coconut shrimp, rosemary baby red potatoes, Louisiana green beans, chicken/sausage jambalaya, dirty rice, red beans and dinner rolls. The buffet dinner is served from 6:00–7:30 pm.

The live auction will kick off at 7:00 pm. All proceeds from the auction go directly to scholarships.  Some of the items up for bid include: six-course authentic Italian dinner for four, golf packages, Twins tickets, Sioux hockey tickets, Minnesota Viking tickets, tools, car washes, an iPad Air, quilts and more. Assistant director of advancement at VCSU, Kim Hesch says, “The scholarship auction is the single biggest event in terms of generating scholarship dollars that the VCSU Foundation office works on each year.” She adds, scholarships are vital to VCSU’s success, and all proceeds from the auction go directly to V-500 and Century Club scholarships. The Scholarship Auction is a collaborative effort of the VCSU Booster Board and V-500 Board. All proceeds from the event are split 50/50.

VCSU had another record enrollment this spring. Hesch says, “Scholarships are important for our continued success in building a strong enrollment.” Hesch says the goal is to raise $80,000 this year. She says, “It’s a bit of a stretch from past years, but we are confident that with the support of our community we will be able to reach the goal.”
