(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School baseball team lost their opening Region I game of the 2014 season by a 4-2 margin against the Kindred/Richland Vikings.
The Tornadoes managed to score a run in each of the first two innings, however, failed to pick up a hit off of Trevor Duffner until there were two outs in the bottom of the seventh. Oakes stranded the tying run at third base in the second and fifth innings.
Duffner struck out nine, and walked just three batters to earn the win. Bryce Meehl took the loss in his third appearance this season; going all seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out three. Matt Kuipers managed the lone hit for the hometown Tornadoes.
Oakes is now 0-1 in Class B Region I, and will host two seven inning contests against the Northern Cass Jaguars on Thursday at Cummings Field. The Tornadoes and Jags were scheduled to play earlier in the month, but were snowed out.
Both games on Thursday will count in the Region I standings. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 5 p.m, and both games will be broadcast on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com
