N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Senators Heidi Heitkamp and John Hoeven will be joining the U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx in Casselton to talk about rail safety.

Before the derailment in Casselton last December, Senator Heitkamp has been calling for updated standards for tanker cars carrying crude oil, increasing safety requirements, and improving first-responder training. Since the derailment, Heitkamp stated that it appears that congress has really begun to focus on rail safety all over the U.S.

Both North Dakota Senators will be meeting with Foxx to answer questions and inform the public of rail safety.
