CITY (NewsDakota.com)- Dakota State put a little scare into the top-seeded Jimmies, but Jamestown did what they needed to do at the end of the game to end the Trojans season. The Jimmies scored four times in the 8th inning to pull away for a 8-3 victory. The loss ends Dakota State’s season at 21-28.

Jamestown improves to 33-8 and will await the winner of Valley City State and Mayville State at 11am tomorrow.

Jamestown grabbed a 2-0 lead in this one thanks to an error and a RBI ground out in the second inning. The third run came following a Rudy Strnad triple, his fourth extra base hit of the weekend, and a sac-fly by Erik Peterson.

The scare came in the fifth inning. A routine ground ball hit to second baseman Nolan Skowronek, that would have ended the inning, kicked off the heal of his glove to keep the inning alive. Joe Davis then sent a screaming line drive to left field that took a wicked hop on left fielder Matt Achter and ran to the wall. All three Dakota State runners came into score to tie the game at three.

Jamestown got one run back immediately in the top of the 6th and that score held into the 8th inning. Mitch Stevens drove an RBI triple to the gap in left center field for the fifth run. Dylan LaFrentz followed with a two-out double and Skowronek capped it with a two-run single.

Ryan Sheeley, in relief of Kyle Shaikoski, picked up the win with 4.2 innings of shutout ball. Shaikoski got the three unearned runs charged to him, but he should have gotten through five full shutout innings.

Jamestown will play at 11am Sunday on 103.1 The Raven and streamed at NewsDakota.com against the winner of VCSU and Mayville State.
