CITY, N.D (VCSU) The Valley City State softball team had its season come to an end Saturday at the North Star Athletic Association/Frontier Conference Postseason Tournament in Jamestown.

The Vikings dropped a 3-2 contest to Dakota State, yielding the go-ahead run on a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

VCSU finishes the season with a 22-21 record. The Vikings went 1-2 at the postseason tournament. VCSU won the North Star regular season championship with a 10-2 conference record.

Elizabeth Rubalcava broke a 2-2 tie with a solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Trojans won 3-2 in a loser-out game. VCSU advanced the tying run to third base in the top of the seventh, but ended the game with a strikeout.

Dakota State jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The first three Trojan batters hit a double, a triple and another double.

VCSU answered back in the top of the fourth inning when senior Liz Hall-Sewell blasted a 2-run home run to left field, tying the game at 2-2. The teams would go scoreless until Rubalcava’s home run in the sixth.

Morgan Nalley started on the mound for VCSU but was lifted after three batters. Samantha Nalley came on and worked six strong innings, allowing just three hits and the one run in the sixth.

Dakota State’s Katie Slibowski earned the win, pitching a complete game and allowing just six hits and two runs.

Hall-Sewell went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBIs to lead the Vikings offense. Katie Cameron, Cejay Hilhorst, Mackenzie Hamre and Katarina Boychuk each had one hit each.
