CITY (NewsDakota.com)- Jamestown is one win away from their 7th NAIA national tournament appearance after a dominate outing from Jimmie starter Jason Shaw. Shaw needed to be great because Mayville State starter Scott Petry was very good as well. But in the end it was Shaw’s performance that stood above the rest in Jamestown’s 5-0 win.

Shaw gave up just four hits in nine innings and faced just two batters over the minimum as part of a complete game shutout. Jamestown is headed to the championship round of the conference tournament where they will need to win once to clinch.

The Jimmies were only able to grab six hits against Petry, but five Mayville State errors helped jump-start the offense. In the second, Landon Uetz reached on an error, went to third on an error and then scored on a Paul Sitkowski groundout for the games first run.

Jamestown also scored single runs in the 5th and 7th innings. The 7th inning run came off a Mitch Stevens RBI double that hit the fence. In the 8th inning, Jamestown added two more runs to give Shaw some breathing room.

The win pushes Jamestown’s record to 34-8 and will play Mayville State again at 1pm on Monday. The Comets scored an 8-1 win over Dickinson State in Sunday nights finale to set up a rematch with the Jimmies. MSU will have to beat UJ twice to win the tournament.

You can listen to the game on 103.1 The Raven and streamed online at NewsDakota.com. Pregame show at 12:45pm.
