CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City Business Education teacher Deb Beilke was named the Teacher of the Year during the annual Valley City Public Schools All-Staff Social and Recognition night on May 7.

Frank Egan was honored by the Troops to Teachers program as being an outstanding public educator with the Sheyenne Valley Area Career & Technology Center. Egan is one of 47 teachers to receive the recognition nationwide.

There were six people who received Retirement Awards; Becky Maasjo a Special Education teacher with 40 years of service to the school district, 4th grade teacher Jo Fitzner with 38 years, Health and P.E. teacher Barb Bjorum with 35 years, Counselor Judi Hillier 33 years of service, Counseling Secretary Nancy Wahlund 21 years and Media Aid Jean Dyrness with 12 years of service to the school District.

And George Dutton received the Valley City Education Association Friend of Education Award during the 2014 All-Staff Social and Recognition evening.
