CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City School District and the Valley City Education Association have agreed to form a new 9-member Health Insurance Committee know as (HIC) to work on finding the best health care coverage to benefit teachers and the school district for the 2014-2015 school year.

Members of the committee include: William “Buff” Murray a Jr/Sr High Math teacher, Sandy Goeller a 6th grade teacher at Washington, Wendy McDaniel a 3rd grade teacher at Jefferson, Trevar Hansen a Jr/Sr High Math teacher, Superintendent Dean Koppelman, Jefferson Principal Troy Miller, Jefferson Secretary Marla Boom, School Board member Joyce Braunagel and School Board member Rick Ross.

Business Manager Linda Heit will act as an adviser for the committee.

School Board Chairwoman Joyce Braunagel says it’s important to get the committee together so members can work on health insurance issues the district may face in the future.

Following an executive session on June 24, the school board unanimously voted to end the negotiation session for this year.

In the new negotiated agreement the healthcare section of the contract will remain the same as the previous agreement. Step pay increases would also remain the same. But this year, there will be no increase in the base pay for new teachers hired in the school district.

After an 8-month impasse between the school district and teachers was settled this year, the new negotiated agreement called for setting up a 9-member Health Insurance Committee to address future health care issues.
