N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The North Dakota State University Carrington Research Extension Center annual field day will be held on Tuesday, July 15.

Greg Endres, CREC area agronomist says, “This is our premier summer event to showcase the center’s research program using five tours.”

A traditional crop tour will be conducted during the morning beginning at 9:30. Participants will view crop research trials and receive current production information. Highlighted will be crop variety performance and production management, plant nutrition and pest management.

The tour will include a review of spring wheat and barley cultivars by NDSU plant breeders Mohamed Mergoum and Richard Horsley. Dave Franzen, NDSU Extension soil science specialist, will discuss corn plant development, with an emphasis on nitrogen management. Endres will provide highlights of soybean production research and recommendations.

Michael Wunsch, CREC plant pathologist, will provide updates on managing white mold (sclerotinia) disease in soybeans and dry beans. Mike Ostlie, CREC research agronomist, and Endres will discuss selected weed control trials to emphasize the importance of timely and herbicide-resistant weed management. Jasper Tebow, CREC soil scientist, will highlight research work with sulfur in wheat and corn.

In addition to the agronomy tour, field day visitors will have the opportunity to attend unmanned aerial system technology, fruit, livestock and organic crop tours.
