N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Babe Ruth team extended their winning streak to eight games taking both matches of a district double header against Ellendale with 7-6 and 6-5 come from behind wins.

There were three lead changes in the opening game between Valley City and Ellendale, but with help from Cole McGough at the plate who was a perfect four for four with three RBIs, VC would take back the win in the seventh for a game one victory.

Despite giving up six runs (3 earned), Dawson Dietrich earned the win for VC pitching six strong innings and striking out four batters.

In the second match up, Valley would once again have to come from behind in order to claim the win. This time it was Nate Rodriguez who gave Valley City the final lead with a seventh inning sacrifice fly. Rodriguez would then jump on the mound shutting down the Ellendale batters to capture the second District Six win of the day.

At the plate McGough led VC with a two for three performance and two RBIs.

Head coach Lance Lukes said, “We didn’t play up to our best today, but we fought through it and found a way to pick up two big wins. McGough had his coming out games today at the plate. He ended up going six for seven in two games and was a bright spot on the day and a spark plug that helped jump start our offense at times.”

With the sweep, VC now stands 23-6-1 overall with a remarkable 13-1 District Six record. Valley returns to the diamond on Monday, July 7th when they host Lisbon at 5pm.
