N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council met for their regularly scheduled monthly meeting on Monday, July 7th.

One of the items discussed included bidding the Utility and Street Improvement for the McElroy Addition. The lowest bid was from Northern Excavating, a Jamestown based company. Councilman Steve Brubakken raised concerns over awarding the bid to the company.

City Attorney Ken Dalstead stated that the company had not been convicted on all of the citations that the company had received. Councilman Dan Buchanan asked if rebidding the entire project would be doable. Mayor Katie Andersen mentioned that the bids were already public and it would just further delay the project. The council voted to award the bid to Northern Excavating with Councilman Brubakken voting in opposition.

Another item that was brought before the council was provided through the hearing from the audience. Danielle Schmidt, a resident of Jamestown, brought forth to the council the city’s firework ordinance. Schmidt had stated that the fireworks being allowed to go off for 9 days was a bit excessive.

Schmidt stated several reasons, such as safety of children, early workers and veterans with PTSD as to why the days should be cut short for lighting of fireworks. Mayor Andersen stated that the issue would be scheduled for a committee to look at later this month.

Aggregate Industries came before the council to further discuss splitting the cost of of the city water hookup instead of using their present water well.

City Administrator Jeff Fuchs stated that it appeared to be an economic concern by splitting the $44,000 cost of the hookup.

The council decided to table awarding the bid pending up a new agreement between Aggregate Industries and the City of Jamestown.
