N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A new survey says North Dakota high school students are more likely to wear seat belts and less likely to ride with a driver who’s been drinking.

The information comes from the latest edition of the “Youth Risk Behavior Survey”.  More than 10-thousand North Dakota high school students took part in the survey last year.

In 2003 – almost 43 percent of students said they rode in a car with a driver who had been drinking. Last year that number dropped to 23 percent. North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler says this is encouraging news.

When it comes to seat belts – about 11 percent of North Dakota High School students said they never wore them while driving. Ten years ago – about 21 percent of students said they didn’t wear seat belts.
