N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown Fire Department lost a long time veteran and friend on July 7th when Jerry Kainz passed away. He was 70 years old.

Gerald “Jerry” Kainz was born on July 14th, 1943 in Dickinson, North Dakota. He graduated from Dickinson State College Campus High School in 1961 and attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton. In 1961, he enlisted in the US Air Force and was honorably discharged after basic training in Texas. Kainz moved to Jamestown in 1968 and on the same day, he joined the Jamestown Fire Department as a volunteer firefighter.

Jerry continued serving the Jamestown Fire Department for 46 years and was appointed Deputy Chief in 2010. He was a member of several community, professional and civic boards, organizations, and clubs in the community. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 14th at 10:00 AM at the St. James Basilica.
