CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) After opening the District Six Tournament with a double digit win over LaMoure, Valley City would punch their ticket to the Semifinal round with a 9-6 victory over a tough Linton team on Sunday afternoon at Charlie Brown Field.

Linton opened up the scoring with a single run in the first frame. When Valley City stepped to the plate, they would take it right back scoring four runs on RBIs from Drew Oberlander, Dawson Dietrich and Nate Rodriguez.

A three run fourth inning would once again put Linton back in the lead, but it would not last long. In the bottom of the stanza, a sacrifice fly from Nate Rodriguez would tie the game. However, a spectacular catch and throw from Linton’s left fielder would end the fourth with both teams tied at six. An inning later VC would pull away scoring the final three runs of the game.

Cole McGough picked up the win going all seven innings in the game.

Valley City returns to tournament play at Charlie Brown Field on Monday. They will play the winner of Ellendale and Napoleon at 2pm.
