(NewsDakota.com) The first full day of the 2014 North Dakota Class B Southeast Region American Legion Baseball Tournament saw four teams earn at least an appearance on Thursday all in thrilling games, while four others have been placed into win-or-go-home scenerios.

The first of the four games saw #2 LaMoure Post 19 hold off #7 Galchutt 4-1. LaMoure scored the first four runs on the Gophers, with Galchut’s lone run coming in the seventh inning. Despite only scoring once, the Gophers stranded 10 runners on base, and had the tying run at the plate when the game concluded. Parker Stemen earned the win for LaMoure, while Galchut’s ace Trevor Dufner ended up with the loss.

In game two, #1 Enderlin Post 221 shut down #8 Lidgerwood Post 84 6-0. Spencer Gillund hit a two-run home run, and Adam Stenson pitched a three-hitter, and struck out six, despite walking seven batters.

Game number three featured an upset as #6 Hankinson-Fairmount held off a late rally by #3 Kindred to win 8-6. H-F scored the first six runs of the game, which included a grand slam by Chase Devine in the third inning. Kindred came back late, but only managed three runs in each the fifth and sixth innings.

The fourth and final contest saw the #4 seed Oakes Post 36 win on a walk-off wild pitch with two outs in the bottom of the seventh over #5 Kidder County Post 231 4-3. Kidder County managed to score the first run of the game in the first inning, but Oakes later answered with three in a row. Oakes’ Jon Tyre was chased out of the game in the sixth after surrendering two runs on four hits with two outs to see the game tied. In the bottom of the seventh, Ethan Zetocha advanced to third from first on a sacrifice bunt attempt from Bryce Meehl, and later scored to win the game on a wild pitch.

Wednesday’s action starts at noon with loser-out play featuring Galchut and Kindred, followed by Lidgerwood and Kidder County at 2:30. The winner’s bracket has LaMoure and Hankinson-Fairmount meeting at 5, and Oakes against Enderlin at 7:30.

Q101.1 FM will once again have coverage of LaMoure, Enderlin and Kidder County, while KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM will feature Oakes. Pregame for the scheduled broadcast games will take place approximately 10 minutes before first pitch.
