(NewsDakota.com)  The Central Region Legion Tourney concluded Saturday with two games at Carrington City Park.  The first game was an elimination game between Hatton and Nelson County with the winner advancing to the championship game and the State Legion Tourney in Langdon starting Wednesday, July 30 through August 3rd.  Here are the results:

After droping to Carrington on Thursday, the Owls of Nelson County would have a tough road ahead of them to get to the championship.  Post 162 beat May/Port on Friday 1-0 in nine innings, then their second game of the day, they beat the number one seeded Gardner 10-6.  

In the first game on Saturday, they met number five seeded Hatton.  Starting pitcher Tyler Gravseth would give a strong pitching performance and Jaden Grover would hit a two-run home run to help the Owls win their third game in a row when facing elimination.  With the win, they would advance to the championship game with Carrington and also punch their ticket to the State Legion Tourney.  Gravseth was the winning pitcher allowing only two runs, six hits, no walks and two strikeouts.  Neil Foss was the losing pitcher giving up five runs on 12 hits.  Grover was 2-for-4 at the plate with a single and the 2-run homer.

CHAMPIONSHIP GAME:  Carrington 7  Nelson County 6, 8 innings

Carrington Post 25 won four straight games in the Tourney and they were crowned the Central Region Tourney Champs as they beat Nelson County in extra innings.  

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Brady Smith would lead off the inning and get hit by a pitch, he was able to get up and walk to first on his own, but was replaced by pinch-runner Sam Richter.  Smith was transported by Carrington Police to the hospital.

After a hit by Patrick Freeman, Austin Hewitt would get Richter to third on a sacrifice.  Then Marcus Hewitt would pop up in the infield for the second out of the inning.  Brett Lyman would bat next and hit a slow roller to short to score Richter from third for the winning run.  Freeman was the third pitcher in the game for Post 25 and picked up the win working the top of the eighth inning.  Jon Lund took the loss.  

Jon Lund would hit a three-run homer in the fourth to tie the game at 3 a piece, Dakota Hoyt also went deep in the seventh with a two-run homer.  There were a total of five home runs hit in the tourney, three by Nelson County and two by Gardner.

Both Carrington and Nelson County will represent the Central Region at the State Legion Tourney in Langdon.  They will meet the Northeast Region in the first round, teams Langdon and Thompson.
