N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The new state record Goldeye caught by a 9 year-old angler may possibly qualify to be a world record.

Brayden Selzler of Velva, North Dakota, caught a 4-pound, 12-ounce goldeye from Lake Audubon last Friday. According to the North Dakota Game & Fish Department, it shattered the 1998 state record and might eclipse the world record for a kept goldeye of 3 pounds 13 ounces.

The Fresh Water Fishing Hall of Fame is the keeper of world records. A spokeswoman with the organization stated that in order to qualify, Selzler will need to apply and he plans to do just that.
