N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol is remembering the only patrolman to have died in the line of duty in sixty years.

Patrolman Beryl McLane was killed at the age of 58 in an automobile accident on State Highway 13 near LaMoure, North Dakota while on patrol. McLane’s patrol car was struck head-on by another vehicle driven by a drunk driver in on July 30th, 1954. The driver of the car was charged with manslaughter.

Beryl McLane was a WWI veteran and had served with the NDHP for 13 years. He had previously served the Aberdeen Police Department for 9 years and the Jamestown Police Department.
