Siedschlag was born May 7, 1935, the son of Leon and Alice (Ness) Siedschlag. He was baptized and confirmed in Trinity Lutheran Church, LaMoure, North Dakota.  Doug grew up on a farm near Berlin, North Dakota.  He graduated from Berlin high school in 1954.  Doug served in the United States Army in 1954 to 1956.  Upon his discharge he moved to Valley City where his family resided and he worked for Russell Miller Milling Company from 1956 to 1959.

On August 3, 1958, Doug was united in marriage to Marlene Aus at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Valley City.

He worked for the Barnes County Highway Department hauling gravel from 1959 – 1961, then started employment with Municipal Utilities in Valley City.  In 1972, they moved to Gladstone, Michigan where he was Gladstone Power Plant Superintendent.  In September 1974 they move to Hazen, North Dakota where he worked for Basin Electric as Maintenance Supervisor and in 1978 was transferred to Wheatland, Wyoming to the Laramie River Station and was its Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor.  Due to health issues he retired in April 1990 and returned to Valley City in 1991.  Doug died Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Villa Maria, Fargo, North Dakota.

Doug enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping with his family and grandchildren.

He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, a charter member of the Am Vets, American Legion and Eagles club.

Doug is survived by his wife, Marlene, three children, David Siedschlag, Gillette, Wyoming; Lois (Dwight) Albers, Coon Rapids, Minnesota; Mark (Becky) Siedschlag, Whitewood, South Dakota; a daughter-in-law, Debbie Siedschlag, Casper Wyoming; 10 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.  A brother-in-law, Donald Taylor, Valley City, also survives.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Scott; two sisters, Georgine Siedschlag and Elaine Taylor; two brothers, Richard and Ronald; a son-in-law, Rick Reiner; and a nephew Steven Siedschlag.

The funeral service for Douglas Siedschlag, 79, Valley City, North Dakota will be 10:30 am Monday, August 4, 2014 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Valley City.  Burial will be in the Woodbine Cemetery, Valley City.  Visitation will be 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 4:00 PM Sunday at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.

Family requests donations be made in Doug’s name to the Our Savior’s Lutheran Church Foundation.
