CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Several people were injured and a Barnes County deputy escaped serious injury as law enforcement worked at a traffic crash on Interstate 94 Saturday shortly after 9am near mile marker 290 in the eastbound lane.

The Highway patrol says a pickup pulling a trailer lost control and rolled on the interstate blocking the east bound lane. Valley City police and Barnes County deputy Dan Anderson responded to the crash. Sheriff Randy McClaflin says another eastbound vehicle failed to slow down and crashed into the Anderson squad car that was empty. He says Anderson escaped injury by jumping out of the way before the impact. The driver and a passenger were transported to Mercy Hospital and treated for unknown injuries after the crash.

The Highway Patrol says a few minutes later a semi struck the rear of a vehicle stopped on the interstate waiting for the crash scene to clear. The vehicle had several people inside. So far no other details about the crash or possible injuries have been released. The crashes remain under investigation with the Highway Patrol.
