N.D. (NewsDakota.com) North Dakota Superintendent of Public Instruction Kirsten Baesler is planning to put together a student cabinet.

She says the group will have between 12 and 18 members. It will include middle and high school students – and maybe even a few elementary students. She says students as young as 9 or 10 years old can have useful opinions about education proposals.

Baesler says she’s worked with student councils. She says they offer valuable insight into how schools are run and ways to improve them.

Baesler says the cabinet will focus on getting student opinions about ideas being considered by the Legislature and the Department of Public Instruction.

She says it will probably meet in the fall and spring. When the Legislature meets, the spring meetings would happen after the legislative session is finished.
