N.D. (NewsDaktoa.com)  The Valley City 16 Under softball was eliminated from the Northern National Championships in Bismarck, North Dakota on Friday night after a couple of tough losses to the South Dakota Outlawas and the Fargo/Moorhead Blaze.

In the opening game, the Outlaws got out to an early lead scoring 9 runs in the first two innings. However, Valley City would not give up. South Dakota would score just two runs through the final three innings of the game. Looking to extend the game past the fifth inning, Valley City loaded the basses with two outs but was unable to sneak in any runs. After five, the Outlawas claimed the victory 11-0.

In the night cap, Valley City was playing for their lives against the Fargo/Moorhead Blaze. In the circle, Grace Scherr kept VC in the contest pitching an outstanding first five innings giving up just three runs. Valley City would pull to within one run of the Blaze with a two run third.

The sixth inning would see Fargo/Moorhead add a much needed cushion as they posted six runs on the board. In the bottom of the frame Valley would start to mount a comeback when Brooke Breckheimer scored on a Kaylee Schlittenhardt single. Unfortunately that was as far as VC would get as they were eliminated 9-3 by the Blaze.

The loss ended the summer softball season for Valley City. Despite going 0-4 in the tournament, the young Valley team earned valuable playing time against some of the Nation’s top teams.
