N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Senator Hoeven recently met with U.S. Energy Secretary Ernest Moniz to promote a billion loan guarantee for the new CHS Nitrogen Fertilizer plant at Spiritwood.

Plans for the plant have been on hold since April, when CHS announced that the cost to build and operate exceeded earlier estimates. Total costs are projected to be around $2 billion and would make it the largest North Dakota project if constructed. Hoeven stated that the plant converts Bakken natural gas into ammonia fertilizer. It would reduce CO2 emissions by an estimated 592,000 tons per year.

If the plant is built, roughly 2,000 jobs will be created with 180 long term jobs available during its operation.
