CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) A number of local officials came out in support of building a million dollar Health, Wellness and Physical Education Center in Valley City.

Valley Development Corporations George Gaukler says the plan is to make a request to the city commission to ask the public for an advisory vote to be placed on the November 4 ballot, extending the ½% sales tax (used for the HAC.) He says the proposed extension would fund permanent flood protection and infrastructure (89%) with 11% going to finance a $3 million dollar bond issue for the Wellness Center.

The Wellness Center would be financed using a state grant, private contributions, a portion of city sales tax fund used for development, VCSU student fees and a public fundraising drive.

The Valley City Parks and Recreation Department in cooperation with Valley City State University and other community leaders are pursuing the concept of a community focused Wellness center that would be open to all ages.

A public input meeting will be held Wednesday August 13 at 7pm inside the Hi Liner Activity Center. The community is encouraged to attend the meeting to hear a presentation followed by a public comment period.
