CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) Ellwood Ellenson of Rice Lake, Wisconsin has committed to play basketball for Valley City State for the upcoming year.

Ellenson comes to the Vikings by way of Bemidji State University, where he played in 13 games as a freshman last season.

In high school, Ellenson helped lead Rice Lake High School to back-to-back conference titles and a Division 2 Regional Championship. In his senior season he averaged 9 points and four rebounds per game. The Warriors ended that year with a 20-5 season record.

Vikings head coach Jeff Kaminsky spoke highly of his newest player saying, “I have known Ellwood and his family for 11 years and I know that he will be a great addition to our program.” He added, “We are excited about the success he can have on and off the court. Ellwood will add size and versatility to our lineup and he will have an opportunity to play a significant role.”

Ellwood’s father John Ellenson was an assistant coach under Kaminsky at the University of Wisconsin-Superior from 2003-2005.

Ellwood comes from a very athletic family. His older brother Wally, spent two season playing basketball for the University of Minnesota and participating in track in field where he was an All-American in the high jump. He recently announced he would be transferring to Marquette to finish out his college career. His younger brother Henry is listed as #5 on ESPNs top 100 college recruits. He is currently finishing out his high school career at Rice Lake.

The addition of Ellenson wraps up the Vikings recruiting class for the 2014-2015 seasons. The newcomers to the team include three transfers and five freshmen.

Valley City State begins the 2014-2015 seasons on October 24th when they host Carroll College.
