(NewsDakota.com) – Gallup has released their annual rankings of the happiest states in the U.S. and North Dakota has clinched the top spot title, dethroning longtime number one Hawaii.

The study measures happiness and well-being on a set of six sub-indexes; life evaluation, emotional health, work environment, physical health, healthy behaviors and access to basic necessities.

According to Gallup, North Dakota has experienced a serious boom in job growth and topped all other states in employee perceptions of job creation. The state also topped the list of payroll-to-population state rankings, allowing it to jump from the nineteenth happiest state to the first.
