CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City commission approved of allowing Faith Lutheran church to use the boulevard to construction a diagonal parking lot on the site of the future church once Smith Lumber Company moves to its now home and construction can begin later this year on the church.

Members of the Valley City Beautification Committee took issue with the plan. Its president Bobby Koeplin asked if a city ordinance would be violated if the church was allowed to build the parking lot on the city owned boulevard.

The city commission approved the move on a 4 to 1 vote with Commissioner Madeline Luke voting against the plan.

Under the motion, the church will have to relocate all smaller trees on the exiting property and allow a shared use path as part of the new construction project.
