CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City High School boys tennis team opened the 2014 season on Friday afternoon hosting Grand Forks Central. The Knights would get the better of the Hi-Liners in a 9-0 final.

Despite losing both Derek Reimers and Dustin Miller, who qualified for state last year in the doubles tournament, the Hi-Liners bring strong numbers to the court this season with 21 members of the team.

Because of the large numbers, Hi-liners head coach Matthew Nielson opted to play 10 varsity players on Friday afternoon letting a number of members of the team get experience and show off their skills. Currently Valley City is still looking to set their line-ups.

Despite the loss, Coach Neilson was happy with the team’s performance saying, “The team believes in each other, the coaches, and the three pillars of Hi-Liner tennis:  Positive attitude, 100% effort, and great sportsmanship.  This attitude and culture has led to great practices and improvement.”

The Hi-Liners return to the court on Tuesday at 4pm at Grand Forks Red River.
