Burkle, 88, Bismarck, ND died Tuesday morning August 26, 2014 at the Missouri Slope Care Center in Bismarck, ND.

Philipine Kay Reich was born February 8, 1926 near Hazelton, ND, the daughter of Jacob Carl Reich and Kay Katherine (Munsch) Reich. She attended the local rural school where she received her elementary education and grew to womanhood in the vicinity. In the 1970’s she received her GED at Jamestown High School.

She and Clifford Burkle were married October 12, 1952 at Hazelton, ND. They made their home in Jamestown where she worked at Jamestown College. She opened Kay’s DayCare in the early 1960’s. She continued to watch her grandchildren after retiring from owning her daycare. Following the death of her husband in 2001 she continued to reside in Jamestown.

She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ and Church Ladies Circle. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the DAV and was a scout leader for years. She also raised many foster children.

She is survived by 4 sons, Lyle Burkle, Omaha, NE, Paul (Kathy) Burkle, Larry (Cindy) Burkle, and Mark Burkle, all of Jamestown, ND; 3 daughters, Janet (Rick) Schapp, Bismarck, ND, Sara (Mitchell) Casper, Rice, MN, and Candida O’Neil, Helena, MT; 20 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 sisters and 2 brothers.

Funeral Service – 1:30 PM Friday, August 29, 2014 in the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Jamestown, ND with Rev. Martin Nussbaum, officiating

Interment – Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND
