CITY,N.D. (NewsDakota.com) It was an aerial assault at Shelly Ellig Field where the Vikings won back the Paint Bucket with a 31-7 victory over the University of Jamestown.

Vikings quarterback Kurtis Walls lead the offensive attack for the home team throwing for 365 yards and four touchdowns in the night’s affair. On the receiving end of many of those passes was freshmen receiver, Antoine Griffin, who finished the game with 158 yards and two touchdowns.

On the defensive end of the ball, the Vikings’ linebackers pulled down two interceptions. Ethen Preston’s came at the end of the first half stifling any momentum the Jimmies could muster going into halftime.

Jamestown’s Beau Eriksson had tough night behind center completing 11 of 24 passes for 121 yards and one touchdown. When he did scramble the Vikings defense was quick to find him allowing just 21 yards on the ground from the dual threat quarterback.

The Vikings home victory marks the first time that a hosting team has won the Paint Bucket Trophy in six games. The win also lifts VCSU to 57-51-5 all-time against the University of Jamestown.  They Vikings will have to defend the Paint Bucket on September 27th when the two teams meet up again in Jamestown.

Valley City hosts the third ranked team in the country, Morningside, on September 6th. Jamestown is also at home that Saturday hosting NCAA Division III’s Concordia College.
