(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School Football team was selected as one of the best teams entering the 2014 season. The hometown Tornadoes started off well enough after cruising to a 36-16 victory versus Britton-Helca South Dakota on Friday night at Cummings Field.

Oakes quarterback Bryce Meehl threw for two touchdowns, one each to Ethan and Carter Zetocha, had a 46 yard interception return for a touchdown and made a 20 yard field goal all in the first half to go along with another interception. Grayson Roney threw a touchdown pass to Carter Zetocha in the second half. In total, the Oakes offense had more than 350 yards racked up, while not surrendering a point to the Braves’ first team offense.

With the win, Oakes starts the year at 1-0, while the Braves are 0-1. Next up for Oakes is a trip to Kulm to take on Ellendale/Edgeley-Kulm on Friday September 5 at 7 p.m. Coverage will start at 6:30 p.m. Friday on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com
