CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) It was a busy night for Hi-Liners Activities on Tuesday night, with the Volleyball team hosting Fargo Davies in their Eastern Dakota Conference Season Opener, the boys tennis team hosting Wahpeton and the Valley City Football team getting ranked fourth in the state.

The Hi-Liners tennis team started off the day on a high note picking up their first win of the season in a 7-2 victory over the Huskies.

The Hi-Liners worked their way to the victory sweeping all three doubles matches against Wahpeton. In the singles matches, Dalton Ondracek earned a #1 singles win over Kylar Jawaski (6-1, 6-2). Evan Haglund picked his first win of the year in #4 singles with a two set win over Wahpeton’s Braxten Hoistad. At #5 and #6 singles Valley City’s Riley Miller and Hunter Burchill each grabbed their first wins of the early EDC tennis season as well.

On the volleyball Court the Hi-Liners opened the EDC season against Fargo Davies. Despite a strong effort, the Eagles edged out the Hi-Liners in three games (25-15, 25-10, 25-12).

The duo of Jaiden Langlie and Arlana Prost proved to be more than the Hi-Liners could handle. Langlie led the Eagles with 14 assists. Prost drove home 6 kills and had a match high 14 digs. Ellie Winter led the Hi-Liners with five kills and one block in the game.  Grace Ihry had six assists for Valley City.

The loss drops Valley City to 5-2 on the season with a 0-1 conference record. Hi-Liners are back on the court Thursday, September 4th at Fargo North.

While volleyball and tennis were hard at work on Tuesday night, the Hi-liners football team had the night off, but they still made a big splash. In the first North Dakota Associated Press sportscasters and Sportswriters Association State Polls, Valley City was ranked fourth.

Bismarck St. Marys took the top spot in the 2A pole capturing all 12 first place votes. Wahpeton was second followed by Fargo Shanley in third. Watford City rounded out the top five one place behind VCHS.

The Hi-Liners picked up the fourth place spot after a 20-14 win over 3A Dickinson High School last Friday night. They will take their new ranking into this week’s game with Dickinson Trinity at Hannah Field. That game can be heard on 1490 KOVC starting at 6:30pm.
